Details
Father son camp is a yearly retreat we do to help dads and sons connect with God and each other. It's an amazing time of renewal and connection, and we hope you'll join us this year.
Schedule
This weekend is designed as a retreat. That means that the schedule is very relaxed, and most of the time is free time to spend doing what you like.
We'll arrive Friday Night at Camp Tejas. Check in begins at 6:30pm, but is open all night. Please eat before you come, as there will not be a meal served on Friday. We'll have a welcome gathering with orientation and some games, but most of this evening will be open for fellowship and time to settle in.
Saturday we'll have breakfast in the dining hall, and then have a short devotional in the morning, and then you'll be set free to enjoy the camp. Lunch and dinner will be in the dining hall again, and we'll have a campfire devotional that evening with smores to cap off the day.
Sunday morning we'll have breakfast, followed by short communion service. You're free to enjoy the camp the rest of the morning, or head back and grab some BBQ in Elgin on your way home.
Rooms
This year, you have an option to stay in a Bunk House, or in Semi-Private Rooms.
- Bunk Houses are large rooms with about 20 bunk-beds (10 bunks), and a shared bathroom space. This is a budget-friendly option and one that allows the boys to mingle and meet several other families. You'll need to bring your own bedding (pillow, sheets, or sleeping bag), and your own toiletries and towel for the shower.
- Semi-Private rooms are like small bunk houses. It's most likely going to just be your family and another one sharing a room. The accommodations are similar to a hotel, so no need to bring bedding or towels. But you'll want to bring a swim towel if you plan to hit up the pool, lake, or the waterslide
Registration Cost (includes room, activities, and four meals for each participant)
Activities
Most of this weekend is free-time for you to bond, have some fun, and unwind. We have lots of activities open like swimming, rock wall, sports court, zip line, fishing, boating, disc golf, and more. Grab your son, some friends, and go have fun.
If you're looking for something more relaxed, bring a hammock or take a book to the coffee shop and hang out there.
If there's something that you love to do (basketball, guitar, cards, board games, frisbee, other sports), I recommend that you bring what you need to do it. Tejas has a lot of facilities, but their equipment may not be in good shape. So bring your favorite leisure activities and come ready to have a good time.
Feel free to check out Camp Tejas' website for a list of things they offer:
Fellowship
One of the big focuses of this weekend is building relationships. Reach out to the other dads and sons you know and encourage them to join us. Feel free to bring another boy along if it will help your son have a great time. If you know someone that would like to come but needs help getting there (financially or otherwise), please reach out to the Austin Christian Staff and let us know.
What we're doing here is more than just having a good time with our sons. We're building bonds that they'll need as they grow up - bonds with peers and mentors. We're building community. And this is a really fun way to do that.
We hope to have you join us this year!
